Our Moisture Vapour Barrier Epoxy is a premium two-component system designed to protect concrete surfaces from high moisture transmission and prepare them for long-lasting finishes. Engineered for professional contractors and DIY enthusiasts alike, this barrier epoxy creates a seamless, durable layer that prevents moisture-related issues such as bubbling, delamination, or adhesive failure in floor coverings and coatings.

With its advanced formulation, the epoxy primer penetrates deeply into concrete substrates, sealing pores and locking out vapour emissions. It serves as both a primer and protective coat, ensuring optimal adhesion for decorative epoxy, flakes, polyaspartic installations. This product is ideal for use in basements, garages, warehouses, and commercial spaces where high humidity or hydrostatic pressure often causes flooring problems.

Easy to mix and apply with a roller or squeegee, the Moisture Vapor Barrier Epoxy (MVB) cures to a strong, glossy finish that withstands heavy traffic and resists chemicals, oils, and abrasions.

Protect your investment and achieve flawless flooring results by starting with the right foundation — a reliable moisture barrier primer that ensures performance and longevity.

DO I NEED AN MVB?

Run a plastic-sheet test after surface prep—e.g. after grinding (best) or an acid etch—and after ≥24–48 h of drying from any wet step (even a simple mop).

Seal (with tape) an 18–24 in square of 6-mil clear poly 100% airtight for 24–48 h with doors closed.

  • Condensation or concrete darkening → use the MVB. Optimal: MVB, wait 8 hours ->  Floor Epoxy + Flakes, wait 12+ hours -> Polyaspartic

  • Stays dry → go straight to floor epoxy base coat + flakes + top coat (Epoxy or Polyaspartic).

Tip: keep the slab ≥3 °C (5 °F) above dew point during the test to avoid “false” condensation.

HOW TO USE

Surface preparation: Concrete should be clean, dry, and free from grease or oils; abrade the surface if very smooth or contaminated (e.g., diamond grinding), then thoroughly vacuum (Shop-Vac) and mop to remove dust.

  • 1. MIX: Combine resin (Part A) and hardener (Part B) at a 2A:1B ratio by volume (e.g., 2 gallons resin + 1 gallon hardener). Stir thoroughly for 3 minutes using a helix mixer with a drill at low to medium speed, ensuring all sides, bottom, and corners are mixed. Proper mixing is crucial for a successful cure.

  • 2. POUR & SPREAD: Immediately pour the mixture evenly across your concrete surface (approx. 115 sq.ft. per gallon). Spread quickly and evenly using a squeegee, then use a 3/8-inch short-nap roller to ensure good penetration into the concrete’s pores. Avoid leaving mixed product in the container, as it can harden within 15 minutes.

  • 3. NEXT STEPS: Allow the MVB to cure depending on your next coat:

  •  Epoxy Top Coat: After 8–10 hours, when the MVB is slightly tacky but mostly dry, apply our floor epoxy directly. Follow the instructions provided with your epoxy product.

  • Polyaspartic Top Coat: Ideally wait 24 hours, lightly scuff the MVB surface (180–220 grit sandpaper or Scotch-Brite pads), then apply polyaspartic. (If time-constrained, you may apply polyaspartic after 10–12 hours when MVB is no longer tacky but still soft enough for adhesion.) Follow the instructions provided with your polyaspartic product.

  • Applying Flakes: After 8–10 hours, once the MVB feels slightly tacky yet mostly dry, apply our floor epoxy, incorporating a color pigment that complements the predominant hue of your flakes. Immediately broadcast the flakes across the surface on the wet epoxy. Allow 12+ hours to pass before applying your clear epoxy or polyaspartic topcoat, following their specific instructions.
